About
Welcome! I’m Wendy Hoddinott, a registered landscape architect with 18 years experience working on some of Aotearoa’s most important landscapes. I specialise in creating meaningful connections between people and places — whether through public spaces, ecological restoration, or heritage landscapes.
My approach combines thoughtful, innovative design with a deep respect for the stories, history, and values that make each place unique. I’ve had the privilege of working with iwi, councils, schools, and communities on co-design initiatives that prioritise inclusivity and empower people to take ownership of their spaces.
I’m dedicated to uncovering the layers of history that shape a site’s identity and using those stories to meet today’s needs. My PhD research in 2018 reinforced the value of involving communities in the design process, leading to more meaningful and enduring outcomes.
One project I’m particularly proud of is Place Cadets, an award-winning design initiative I led with children and youth. It reflects my commitment to empowering the next generation to shape the spaces they’ll inherit.
Every project I undertake is an opportunity to create lasting value—honouring what matters most while ensuring these spaces remain relevant for generations to come.
